By creating competition among handloom weavers, they will be motivated to make high quality handloom fabrics. This scheme is being run with the objective of encouraging handloom weavers and improving the economic and social condition of the weavers, increasing their productivity and improving the quality. At present, keeping in view the scenario of diversification and change of clothes according to the increasing competition and technological development, this scheme is being implemented to provide assistance, support, encouragement and rewards to the weavers working in the handloom industry.
Scheme Outline and Amount Payable to Beneficiaries
First, the Regional Assistant Commissioner of Handlooms, along with their field employees, will first disseminate this scheme by distributing pamphlets and posters by organizing camps and then by issuing advertisements and press releases in the newspapers to submit the samples within a stipulated period. The Regional Officer will do the screening before selection and ensure that the sample received is produced on handloom only. Thereafter, it will be presented before the Regional Selection Committee. The first, second and third prizes will be selected by holding a meeting of the field level handloom award selection committee. After that, the rewarded sample along with the minutes and complete details of the zone level selection committee will be sent to the directorate for presenting before the state level handloom award selection committee.
A. Amount payable for zone level handloom award :-
To reward the selected weavers at the regional level, the budget will be required as follows :-

The state level award will be given in four categories. The samples received by the Directorate will be placed in four categories for state level awards.
- Category -1 Saree, Brocade, Dress Material.
- Category -2 Cotton rugs, Woolen rugs, Silk rugs and rugs.
- Category -3 Bedsheet, Bed Cover, Home Furnishing.

The process of selection of beneficiaries under the scheme -
At the time of selection of regional / state level awards, special emphasis will
be given on the following points.
The initial background of weavers and special contribution in the field of handloom
such as design, weaving techniques, combination and use of colors and processing
etc. Design and production development (especially exportable garments). Details
of the work done in the field of handloom product diversification and development
of handloom industry. Weaver's publicity and progress details through newspaper/any
other medium.
Implementation System
After screening from the regional officers, the applications selected and recommended by the regional level committee will be placed before the State Award Selection Committee. Weavers / Designers / Master Weavers can directly send their samples to the Directorate for selection in the state level. The application form will also be uploaded on the Majandindanchanpad portal.
