From the year 2006, it was decided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to supply electricity at flat rate to the powerloom weavers of the state. In which INR 130.00 per loom is being given by weavers of urban area and INR 37.50 per loom by weavers of rural area. At present, a new scheme is proposed to meet the complaints of misuse of electricity and according to the demand of weavers, which is under consideration at the government level. The implementation of the scheme is done by the Handloom Department in coordination with the Regional Assistant Commissioner, Handlooms and officers of the Energy Department. For the purpose of benefiting the powerloom weavers of the state in the financial year 2020-21, the approval of a budget of INR 15000.00 lakh (Rupees one billion and fifty crore only) has been received. The sanctioned amount of INR 15000.00 lakh (Rupees one billion and fifty crore only) has been handed over to the Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. Lucknow. In the financial year 2021-22, a proposal of INR 25000.00 lakh (Rupees two billion and fifty crore only) is proposed under the scheme of rebate in electricity rate to powerloom weavers.
